How to download an available Instagram story
Use View story to open an available public story in the popup, or Download to save its original media file. Open media remains available as a browser-saving alternative.
Search a public profile
Use the viewer to search the exact public username. Choose your own content or content you have permission to save. An empty result means there is no returned file to download.
Open the story viewer
Select View story below a returned story. Use the previous and next buttons to browse. Videos have play, pause and sound controls; playback starts when you press Play.
Download the original file
Select Download below the story or inside the popup. Links last up to 15 minutes in the same browser session; search again if a link expires. Downloads support files up to 50 MB. If saving fails, try Open media and your browser’s save options.
Check the saved file
Open the file on your device and check its picture and sound. A completed download does not guarantee that the returned video contains audio.
If the file will not save
Media links can expire. Search the profile again if its file no longer loads. A different browser may offer different controls, but saving is not guaranteed. This guide cannot create a file when the provider has returned no available story.
Why a saved video can have no sound
Check the device volume and the player’s mute control. If the file opened through Open media is also silent, the supplied version may not contain an audio track. Downloading it or switching players cannot restore a track that is absent from the file.
What this guide supports
These steps apply to files actually returned by the public-story viewer. They do not unlock private accounts, recover deleted or expired stories, or provide a highlights archive. Save and share content only when you have the required rights or permission.
